How Much Does a Sungrow Solar Energy System Cost?

A Sungrow inverter is displayed with a solar panel background. Text reads: "Sungrow Inverter Cost.

Pricing a solar system can be complex. Several factors influence the final cost, and there is no one-size-fits-all answer. However, Sungrow inverters have become a popular choice for those seeking a balance between affordability and performance.

With high efficiency, a strong reputation, and local support in Australia, Sungrow provides an excellent option for homeowners and businesses looking to install solar.

But how much do these systems cost?

At PSC, we install Sungrow solar systems and believe in their value. This guide will walk you through what goes into the cost of a Sungrow system, how pricing varies, and what you can expect in return for your investment.

In this article, you will learn about the following:

  • What is a Sungrow Solar Panel System?
  • Factors That Influence the Cost of a Sungrow Solar Panel System
  • How Much Does a Sungrow Solar Panel System Cost at PSC?
  • Return on Investment (ROI) for a Sungrow Solar Panel System

Understanding these details will help you make an informed decision when considering Sungrow for your home or business.

What is a Sungrow Solar Panel System?

To understand the cost of a Sungrow system, it’s essential to know what a Sungrow solar energy system includes. Sungrow manufactures inverters, the most important part of any solar setup. We match them with the most efficient panels possible.

What does an inverter do?

Your solar panels harvest sunlight and convert it into direct current (DC) electricity. Your home and the electrical grid run on alternating current (AC) electricity.

The inverter’s job is to convert the direct current (DC) electricity generated by solar panels into alternating current (AC) electricity that your home appliances use.

Sungrow offers a variety of inverters, including:

  • Single-phase inverters for standard homes.
  • Three-phase inverters for larger properties and businesses.

Sungrow inverters are known for their efficiency, reaching up to 98.5% in some models. This means they effectively convert solar energy into usable power with minimal losses.

They’re a competitive option in the market. And when paired with solar panels, the value is off the charts.

Factors That Influence the Cost of a Sungrow Solar Panel System

Several elements impact the total cost of a Sungrow solar system. Here are some of the most significant:

  1. Inverter Type – Sungrow offers different types of inverters, and the choice of single-phase or three-phase will affect the cost.
  2. System Size – A larger system with more panels and a higher inverter capacity will cost more upfront and generate more energy and long-term savings.
  3. Roof Design – The complexity of your roof layout can impact installation costs. Multiple roof angles, shading, or difficult access can increase labour and material expenses.
  4. Installation Costs – Professional installation is required to ensure safety and efficiency. At PSC, we employ our own installation team, providing consistent quality control. Some other companies use subcontractors, which may affect pricing.
  5. Monitoring and Additional Features – Sungrow inverters have monitoring capabilities, allowing homeowners to track energy usage and system performance. It’s possible to purchase a more sophisticated monitoring system called Solar Analytics, which adds to the overall cost.
  6. Battery Storage – If you opt for battery storage, the price of your system will increase. However, it also allows you to store excess solar energy for use at night, during peak pricing, or during power outages. PSC does not currently carry the Sungrow battery. We do, however, offer other options that we believe in.

While every solar setup is unique, we can provide general pricing estimates based on common system sizes.

Understanding Our Day Rate:

At PSC, we charge a day rate for installation. We can get everything installed in one day, depending on how large the system is. Larger systems with more equipment might require an extra day, which will affect your payback period. It depends on the size of your customised system.

Some factors can increase costs, even in larger installations.

  • Roof Orientation: If your roof has multiple orientations or complex angles, additional mounting equipment and electrical wiring may be required to ensure the solar array functions optimally.
  • Electrical Upgrades: If a system requires significant electrical upgrades, this can add to the total expense. This might include replacing an outdated switchboard or running additional conduit.

Understanding the Solar Rebate:

When looking at solar pricing, it’s important to factor in the Small-scale Technology Certificate (STC) scheme. This scheme is better known as the federal solar rebate.

This government incentive helps knock down the upfront cost of installing solar by giving you a discount based on how much energy your system is estimated to generate over its lifetime.

Here’s how it works: when you install a solar system, you earn a certain number of STCs, kind of like credits, based on the size of your system and where you live. These STCs are then sold to electricity retailers, who need to buy them to meet renewable energy targets.

Instead of making you go through the hassle of selling them yourself, solar installers handle it for you by applying the rebate as a discount on your system.

One important thing to keep in mind: this rebate is slowly being phased out and will be gone by 2030. The sooner you install solar, the bigger your savings.

How Much Does a Sungrow Solar Panel System Cost at PSC?

Now that we’ve gone through the factors that affect the cost of a Sungrow installation let’s move on to the reason we’re here: the cost of a Sungrow system.

The price of a Sungrow system varies depending on the inverter size and how many panels we can fit on your roof.

At the low end:

For 9 panels with a 5kW inverter, the price is around $9,950.

If you prefer to finance through Plenti, a green loan provider we work with, the deposit will be $950 with $238 inmonthly repayments.

That’s the low end for a Sungrow system.

Please remember that as our systems scale up, the price becomes more economical due to economies of scale.

At the high end:

We can install up to 79 panels with a 30kW inverter for around $22,250.

And if you choose to finance this size system, you’ll be paying a deposit of $2,225 with $556 in monthly repayments.

As you can see, this is exceptional value.

Please Remember: Every customer’s energy goals and needs are different. This is why we customise every system we install. After all, every roof is unique, too. The above range is just an estimate with the specifics to be hammered out with one of our solar consultants.

Return on Investment (ROI) for a Sungrow Solar Panel System

While the upfront cost might seem like a lot, most systems pay for themselves within a few years through lower electricity bills.

In New South Wales, the typical payback period is around three to five years, but this can vary depending on how much energy you use, your electricity rates, and whether you have a battery.

And with electricity prices always creeping up, the savings from solar only get better over time.

A Sungrow solar panel system will pay itself off quickly. We see these systems pay for themselves within three years. That’s exceptional value as well. It outpaces the competition.
